“Night was suggested by Free Ride. At first it had a more lineal quality. I had made only a sketch and it seemed too decorative to bother with. Then, during the summer of 1962, I sat alone for a long time in a quiet place, and I saw Night come up just like that. I changed the proportions in a sketch, but never made a model."
